Edmonds Ties School Record, Women’s Golf Leads Pat Bradley Invite
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Laura Edmonds (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Cypress Bay) tied her school record with a first-round score of 65 leading the FGCU women’s golf team to first place on the leaderboard after the first round of the 44th Pat Bradley Invitational hosted by FIU at the Lakewood Rach Golf and Country Club.
“I’m so proud of the team and our start to the tournament. We have been talking about focusing on improving our opening round and we certainly accomplished that today,” said head coach Sarah Trew. “Haley was very solid today and put a good number for us and Laura has just been on fire. We know we still have work to do and tomorrow is a new day. We will try to take it low again tomorrow.”
Along with her school record 65 as the lowest round in program history, Edmonds also was -7 versus par which was also an individual school record. The Eagles tallied a score of 282 which was the second lowest team score for a round, while the -6 against par was also a program record.
Edmonds finished the day with a clean card highlighted by seven birdies including four on the first nine holes. She had previously set the school-record for a low round at the Jupiter Invitational when she shot 65 in the third round.
Just behind her was Haley Yerxa (Ottawa, Ontario/Hillcrest) who shot 69 for the day to finish three under in a tie for third. Yerxa had five birdies and was four under through 14 holes.
Anouk Casty (Basserdrof, Switzerland/Academia) finished the round even at 72 to tie for 19th, while Sophia Warren (Lakewood Rach, Fla./Seminole State College) and Posie Farrelly (Lutz, Fla./George Steinbrenner HS) tied for 52nd after each carded 76 on the day.
Josephine Bertelsen (Vejle, Denmark/Campus Vejle/Western Texas College), who is playing as an individual, sits tied for 70th after the first round with a score of 79.
The Eagles finished second on the day with 18 birdies as a team and totaled 58 pars. FGCU also led the field in par 3 scoring at 2.85 (-3). Edmonds’ seven birdies led the field, while Yerxa’s five was tied for third.
Second round action will begin on Sunday at 8 AM with live stats available through www.GolfStat.com.
The last time the Eagles played in the Pat Bradley, FGCU finished 3rd among 17 teams in 2019-20. Prior to last year’s shortened season, FGCU had competed in the event 14 consecutive seasons.

COACH TREW
Since taking over the program in 2011, Sarah Trew has guided the Eagles to 46 top-five finishes, including 34 over the past six seasons. On top of that, she led the program to a pair of second-place finishes in the ASUN Championship in 2016, 2017, and 2019, signifying the best finishes in program history. She was named the ASUN Coach of the Year in 2015-16 and has guided FGCU to some of its best statistical seasons in program history

ABOUT FGCU
FGCU teams have combined to win an incredible 85 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 14+ seasons at the Division I level. Additionally, in just nine seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had a combined 42 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. Eight FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport – including women’s basketball (No. 21, 2020-21), beach volleyball (No. 20, 2021) and both men’s soccer (2018, 2019) and women’s soccer (2018) as three of the most recent. In 2016-17, the Green and Blue posted a department-best sixth-place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors’ Cup and top-100 showing nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions. In 2018-19, the Eagles had an ASUN and state of Florida best seven teams earn the NCAA’s Public Recognition Award for their Academic Progress Rate in their sport. FGCU also collectively earned a record 3.50 GPA in the classroom in the fall 2020 semester and has outperformed the general University undergraduate population for 24 consecutive semesters. The 2019 Fall, 2020 Spring, 2020 Fall, and 2021 Spring semesters each saw another milestone reached as all 15 programs achieved a 3.0-or-higher team GPA in each. The Eagles also served an all-time high 7,200 volunteer hours in 2017 – being recognized as one of two runners-up for the inaugural NACDA Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
