McDonald of Washington County’s Tech High wins Teacher of the Year
Elizabeth McDonald, a biomedical science teacher at Washington County Technical High College, with her trophy in hand, stepped into her new Honda Passport on Wednesday night with a glimpse of pleasure and amazement.
McDonald experienced just been named Washington County Public Schools’ 2022-23 Trainer of the Yr.
“I am confused,” she said. “I’m amazingly humbled. I want to operate to encourage, expand and rejoice all that is good in Washington County Public Schools.”

McDonald, who was also awarded a $5,000 verify and a reward basket from Chick-fil-A, was joined by her partner, university officials and users of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce at Fountain Head Place Club in Hagerstown.
She was also joined by the four other finalists vying for the honor.

- Erica Kozlowski, 2nd-grade magnet trainer at Fountaindale Elementary School
- Ann Palmer, 3rd-quality trainer at Jonathan Hager Elementary School
All Teacher of the Year finalists were being presented checks for $1,000, bouquets and a bucket of goodies from Chick-fil-A.
McDonald succeeds 2021-22 Instructor of the Year Caroline Schlegel, a Spanish trainer at Smithsburg Significant University.
Schlegel was also chosen a finalist for Maryland Trainer of the 12 months for the 2021-22 faculty calendar year.

Schlegel instructed the viewers Wednesday evening, that she was grateful to the neighborhood for its support of Washington County General public Educational institutions.
Schlegel claimed she expended the final calendar year performing with instructors, government leaders and students from around the point out. She thanked WCPS for believing in her.
Superintendent Boyd Michael, who made the announcement that McDonald was the winner, been given a standing ovation from the crowd in response to his prepared retirement July 1.
Michael has served Washington County General public Educational facilities for 43 several years, the most current five years as its superintendent.
This is the final year Michael will be component of the WCPS Teacher of the 12 months plan.
“It is a fantastic honor and privilege of mine to identify these excellent educators,” he said.
Michael stated WCPS employs 1,800 lecturers.
McDonald has been a trainer for more than 20 several years, and has labored at WCPS for 11 a long time. She has been a Trainer of the Calendar year finalist just before, in 2016 and 2020.
