Park Rapids teacher Gwen (Iler) Hasbargen honored with Chicago mural

Dane Caswell was attending Park Rapids Middle University as a sixth grader that calendar year. Skip Gwen Iler, 23 at the time, taught social experiments.

“She was instructing the shipping routes of the Good Lakes. She was a really young teacher. The Edmund Fitzgerald lesson just lately turned a colourful mural in the hallway of Hibbard Elementary College in Chicago.

Caswell’s pal, Gary Dehne, teaches at Hibbard. Dehne recommended retelling the tale by art.

“I took a piece of junk mail. I just sketched it out just as I remembered it,” Caswell claimed. “He introduced that image that I just threw with each other, like two months back. He introduced it to the artist, and she put it up on the wall.”

Caswell stated the mural depicts a teacher’s legacy as effectively as a “thank you” to Hasbargen.

He named her to tell her of her newfound fame.

It came as a large surprise.
